Hypnotherapy - What it is and How It Can Help

Hypnosis is a state of altered awareness during which the subconscious mind is more open and receptive to suggestions that are given. Another description is that you are in a deep state of concentration or focus, so relaxed you become less aware of your surroundings. You are still in control of you and will not do or believe anything you would not want to. In fact, in a pre-session you and the hypnotherapist will discuss what topics you want to focus on and the goals you wish to achieve.

We drift in and out of different levels of awareness many times a day, absorbing information on a subconscious level as well as a conscious one. Common experiences and examples include when you’re driving somewhere for quite a while and realize you’ve gone miles without being aware.  Or you’re outside for a walk, reading a book or watching a show and realize an hour has passed and you weren’t aware of the time passing.

During a session the client will be directed to sit in a comfortable position, in a quiet room. The hypnotherapist will provide verbal imagery to help them relax and go into trance, the altered state of awareness. The middle part of the session will include positive affirmations, and suggestions that will help the client focus on in their subconscious that will help them to achieve their goals. To end the session the hypnotherapist will guide the client back to the present moment.

I prefer the term Hypnotherapy as with the term hypnosis too many folks think of chickens.

So what is Hypnotherapy?

Hypno - refers to hypnosis.

Therapy - Treatment to help a person get better from disease, injury, relationship, emotional issue.  Just a few examples of therapy types. Physical, chemo, speech, gene, psychological, cognitive, drug, couples, family, hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy is a tool to help folks achieve goals.
